Daily Five

I've been doing the Daily 5 for two years now and just love it.  I will NEVER go back to centers and all that work!

I love the way the kids are engaged and get to choose what they want to do.  CAFE is the best part of D5.  We get to track our learning and then make goals for ourselves.  It is genius!
I know once we change to common core I will need to revamp CAFE-has anyone aligned this yet?

I have a few Daily 5 resources on my TPT site.

This is how my students do Work on Words.  It is available HERE

These are a few of the papers they use with the Tic Tac Toe sheets:

They are available HERE.

Or you could just use these:

I've received requests to combine my tic-tac-toe boards and papers. I said I wasn't going to do it, but I decided to. {{Lesson learned-if you bug me, I will come around, lol}}

Now, they are even better!

I've added more choices to meet all of the diverse learners in your classroom.

The words used are different, too. I decided to use high frequency words as well as the most common words in leveled readers, between levels 3-20.

This way students are exposed to words they both read and write.

Here is a sampling of what you will get.

Here is the listing.

These are a few of the organizational tools I use:

Finally, these are the comprehension resources to go with Listen to Reading and Read to Self.  I love these the most because they are so versatile.  I make each sheet into a poster. Then,  model how to use the sheet, then kids do it with a partner and lastly, independently.  Here are a few snapshots of a couple of the resources:

You can get these HERE.

Do you use Daily Five in your classroom? I do!
I have been using this model for three and a half years and would NEVER go back to centers.
My students make amazing progress and Daily Five is so much less work than centers. I had 13 kiddos below grade level at the beginning of this year and now only four are below ... and it is not even the end of the year. Three of these students have (or are about to) IEPs. They all made a years growth but are still behind.
While I know I am an experienced, well educated teacher, I acknowledge the fact that Daily Five has contributed to the success of kids. Why? They actually read and write. They do not spend time doing meaningless activities or worksheets and I focus my lessons very carefully.
Read to Someone was the most difficult for my students {and me}. They needed some accountability like all of the other Daily's. So I knew I had to come up with something.
